HR & Survey Glossary
Clear definitions of the key terms used in employee engagement surveys, HR analytics, culture diagnostics, and the Best Place To Work Award — written for HR practitioners.
Employee Engagement
The emotional and intellectual commitment employees have to their organisation, team, and role — correlated with performance, retention, and business outcomes.
MAGIC® Framework
CorpMetrix's validated 5-dimension engagement model: Meaning, Autonomy, Growth, Impact, and Connection. Based on 30+ years of organisational psychology research.
OHBI (Organisational Health & Belonging Index)
CorpMetrix's composite index measuring 7 levels of organisational health — from basic safety and belonging through to strategic alignment and growth orientation.
360° Feedback
A multi-rater assessment collecting behavioural feedback from a participant's self, manager, peers, and direct reports to support leadership development.
eNPS (Employee Net Promoter Score)
A single-question loyalty metric: 'On a scale of 0–10, how likely are you to recommend this company as a place to work?' Scores range from -100 to +100.
Pulse Survey
A short (5–15 question), frequent employee survey designed to track sentiment between annual engagement surveys.
Driver Analysis
Statistical technique (regression/importance-performance analysis) identifying which survey dimensions have the highest correlation with the overall engagement index — and are therefore the highest-priority action areas.
Psychological Safety
The shared belief that team members will not be punished or humiliated for speaking up, asking questions, or making mistakes — identified by Google's Project Aristotle as the #1 predictor of team effectiveness.
Culture Audit
A structured assessment of an organisation's HR and people practices across hiring, development, recognition, wellbeing, and DEI — used as part of the Best Place To Work Award process.
Benchmark
A reference score from an external database (e.g., CorpMetrix's database of 500+ organisations) used to contextualise an organisation's survey results.
Participation Rate
The percentage of invited employees who completed a survey. A rate of 70%+ is considered statistically reliable for most sub-group analysis.
Anonymity Threshold
The minimum number of respondents in a group required before results are shown, protecting individual confidentiality. CorpMetrix's default is 5.
Action Planning
The structured process of translating survey insights into prioritised, owner-assigned improvement initiatives with defined timelines and success metrics.
Onboarding Survey
A survey administered at 30, 60, and 90 days after a new employee's start date to measure their integration experience and flag early attrition risk.
Exit Survey
An anonymous survey given to departing employees to capture their reasons for leaving and identify preventable attrition patterns.
